'How I Met Your Mother' star Cobie Smulders and Taran Killiam welcome their second child.
How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders and her husband Taran Killiam welcomed their second child. In a recent interview, Smulders said that she had given birth three week earlier. And the couple, both 32, kept it a secret.
Smulders broke the news while she was promoting her new film at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. She sat down with Bustle to talk about her film Unexpected on Sunday.
In the film, Smulders plays an inner-city high school teacher, Samantha Abbot, who finds herself pregnant with a child she did not plan to have, and she must figure out how she is going to handle the situation. In the meantime, she forms a friendship with one of her students. She nonchalantly told Bustle that she was able to relate to her character since she was “in Sundance” and had a “three week old baby.”
She called the motherhood-themed movie “so prevalent” in the world and in her own world. She added that she is “lucky” because she has “a great career” and a “huge support system” that not every woman can say she has. Smulders said that the movie is interesting because it “shows both of those sides.”
Smulders’ pregnancy coincided with the production of the film. However, there were several fake pregnancy bellies used while on set, but she was not showing enough to use her own stomach.
Her pregnancy did help her in shooting the film, though. Smulders said that it was easy to pull from “sense memory” for many of the scenes. According to Entertainment Weekly, even the onscreen ultrasound is her actual sonogram.
The couple announced their recent baby news in October 2014, but no one had realized how far along Smulders was when the news broke. Killiam and Smulders had dated for eight years, and they were engaged for three years, before they got married in September 2012 before having their first child. The TV stars’ new child joins big sister Shaelyn Cado, 5, whom the couple welcomed in 2009.
Although the news about the child’s birth was announced, there was no other information revealed. The baby’s name and gender are still unknown and their representatives have yet to respond.
It does not look like she is planning to reveal any information right away. Smulders was spotted carrying her child under a large coat at the Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday.
Smulders is best known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky on How I Met Your Mother, but she has been making herself known for her versatile acting skills and roles. Unexpected is not the only film Smulders will be seen starring in this year. She will also appear as Maria Hill in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Smulders will also play the character Kat in the upcoming film Results.
Smulders is not the only busy parent in the family. Killiam will be starring in the fifth season of Saturday Night Live. He is also working on the comedy films Brothers in Law and Casual Encounters, which is currently in post-production.
