Even Taylor Swift is not immune to the Hollywood social media and phone hackings that have been going on of late. The pop singer had her Twitter account hacked by a group that was claiming to be a part of the Lizard Squad, a group who previously hacked into a variety of gaming systems around the holidays.
The hackers took to Taylor’s account mainly to tell her followers to follow other people associated with their group. It did not take her 70 million followers long to catch on that something was amiss. Things took a more serious turn however, when the hackers started threatening to release nude photos of the star.
Taylor acknowledged the attack through her Tumbler account, ensuring fans that her account was being safely locked until they could issue her a new password, as well as delete the tweets that the hackers placed on her account.
“Well now I’m awake. My Twitter got hacked but don’t worry, Twitter is deleting the hacker tweets and locking my account until they can figure out how this happened and get me new passwords. Never a dull moment,” she wrote.
The hacking was not over at that point however, as later in the day her Instagram account was hacked into as well.
“Now Instagram,” she continued. “This is going to be a long day.”
Anyone awaiting any sort of scandalous photo of Taylor is probably going to be waiting a while, as she explicitly expressed that the hackers would not find any nude photos on any of her accounts.
“PS any hackers saying they have ‘nudes’? Psssh you’d love that wouldn’t you! Have fun photoshopping cause you got NOTHING.”
They did however reach some private information of hers, and ended up releasing some screen shots of conversations she had through direct messages on Twitter, including one that she had making plans with Nick Jonas.
Hacking has been quite the hot topic this past year, both with the Sony hackings that took place and with the plethora of celebrity hackings that resulted in the release of many nude and private photographs.
Taylor does not seem too thrown by the recent invasion of privacy, instead being her always polite self and referencing her song Shake it Off in her comments of the issue.
“Cause the hackers gonna hack, hack, hack, hack, hack…”
Perhaps Swift’s easy going mood could be attributed to the fact that Madonna herself has crowned Taylor as the Princess of Pop. Madonna made an appearance on Australia’s Network Nine’s Today and straight up gave props to the younger pop star.
“It’s good to have princesses [of pop]. It means there’s lots of pretty dresses around. I like Taylor Swift. I think she writes some really catchy pop songs. I can’t get them out of my head,” said the icon.
Taylor has cited Madonna as a role model in the past, so the dual honor was a meaningful one. In response to Madonna’s statement, Taylor expressed her delight via Tumbler.
“Thanks, now I’m dead,” she said.
