Motorola opens North America pre-orders for Moto series phones Tuesday

Motorola will begin taking pre-orders of four new products in its Moto line on Tuesday, but only for North American purchasers.

Motorola will begin taking pre-orders for four new devices, beginning 11:00 a.m. Central Time Tuesday, but only in North America, reports David Steele of AndroidHeadlines.com.

The devices are the AT&T Moto X, priced at $99.99; the Pure Edition Moto X at $499.99, which arrives unlocked with an unlockable bootloader; the Moto Hint Bluetooth headset, $149.99, and the Motorola Turbo Charger, which uses Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 2.0, for $34.99.

Shipping dates will vary by product, and will be  provided at checkout, says the Motorola blog.  U.S. purchasers can receive a prepaid Visa card worth up to $300 in exchange for their old devices, says the blog.

Purchasers in the UK, France or Germany can take advantage of the newly designed Moto Maker at the Motorola site.

The 2014 Moto X is the flagship smartphone for Motorola.  Based on a quad core 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2 GB of RAM, the phone offers 16 GB or 32 GB of storage and a 5.2-inch, 1080p AMOLED display.

The Moto X comes with a 2,300 mAh battery, high speed WiFi, LTE, NFC and 13 MP rear camera. It also features a near-stock interface polished with special company software.

Moto X bells and whistles include Moto Voice, a touchless voice control, and the ability to rename the device, so the user can avoid triggering half a dozen other Moto X devices. Moto Assist helps change the handset behavior of the user, depending on other ongoing tasks, such as driving.

The X also comes with Moto Display, giving the user brief notifications on the device when it is picked up, rather than illuminating the whole screen. Moto Actions allows the user to control certain aspects of the device by using hand gestures in front of the machine.

The Moto Hint is a Bluetooth headset so tiny that it fits in the ear with no ear hook or protrusion. An infrared proximity sensor turns the device on when placed in the ear and turns it off when removed. Calls are automatically routed to the Hint when it is worn, and to the smartphone when it is not.

Not ready to upgrade? Moto 360 will be back in stock Tuesday.
