Total activity on smartphones and tablets now accounts for 60 percent of digital media time spent in the U.S.
A new report from ComScore ranks the top ten mobile apps by usage. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Google dominates.
While the Facebook app takes first place by a wide margin with 115 million monthly users, the next three spots are occupied by Google products: YouTube (83.4 million users), Google Play (72 million users), and the Google Search App (70 million users), according to USA Today.
The digital music service, Pandora, takes fifth place with 69 million listeners. But Google Maps and the Gmail App follow close behind with 64.5 million and 60 million monthly users respectively.
The final three spots are taken by non-Google products. WIth 46.6 million monthly users, Instagram comes in eighth, followed by a tie for the ninth and tenth spots between Apple Maps and Yahoo Finance. Somewhat surprisingly, Apple Maps is the only Apple product in the top ten, used by 42 million people monthly.
ComScore is an internet technology company that measures consumers’ digital navigation habits.
“The days of desktop dominance are over,” concludes ComScore’s report. “Mobile has swiftly risen to become the leading digital platform.”
Total activity on smartphones and tablets now accounts for 60 percent of digital media time spent in the U.S., according to the report. App usage alone makes up a 52 percent of total digital media engagement.
