"#Facebook is not a Law Enforcement issue, please don't call us about it being down," an officer for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station said on Friday.
Some people think that calling 911 will solve just about any problem they have, including one with Facebook.
When Facebook went down for some on Friday, a few people panicked and called 911, CNET reports. Whether they were prank calls or people truly concerned about the inability to update their status remains a mystery for now.
“#Facebook is not a Law Enforcement issue, please don’t call us about it being down, we don’t know when FB will be back up!” tweeted Sgt. Burton Brink, the spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station, on Friday.
“Yes we got calls #facebookdown That is why I sent out my previous msg to prevent them. Unk number received on 911 or reg number TY #LASD,” he added after receiving questions from skeptical observers.
Although Brink confirmed to NBC News that calls regarding the Facebook outage had been made to 911, Capt. Britta Steinbrenner of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau did not confirm that outage-related 911 calls had been made to the Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley station. She did, however, note that Brink was not on duty at the time he sent out messages about the 911 calls, NBC News reports.
The department is reportedly investigating the tweets.
