Odin Lloyd was a 27-year-old semi-pro football player for the Boston Bandits.

Former NFL tight end Aaron Hernandez is facing another court date after being arrested Wednesday for the murder of Odin Lloyd (pictured above).

According to texts sent by Lloyd just before he was killed in the early morning hours of June 17, he told his sister that he was with “NFL…Just so you know.”

Prosecutors allege that the murder resulted from a dispute over somebody Lloyd had spoken to at a Boston night club. Hernandez was allegedly angry that Lloyd had talked to somebody at Club Rumor who he was not on good terms with. Hernandez and three other men then allegedly picked up Lloyd and drove around the Boston area before killing him just prior to 3:30 a.m. The last text from Lloyd’s phone to his sister was marked as sent at 3:23 a.m. A jogger discovered the body around 5:30 p.m., later that same day.

On Wednesday, Hernandez was charged with first-degree murder and five counts of possessing weapons illegally. His lawyer’s request for bail was denied by the Attleboro District Court judge.

Meanwhile, Carlos Ortiz, 27, was arrested in connection with the same investigation. Ortiz was picked up in Bristol, Connecticut, which is Hernandez’s home town, and being held on $1.5 million bail.

According to prosecutors, the incident at the night club caused Hernandez to become paranoid. They also say that police have a video recording of the former tight end holding a gun and saying, “You can’t trust anyone anymore,” just before leaving to pick up Lloyd the night of the murder.

Much of the evidence comes from surveillance video footage from Hernandez’s home, although there is a span of time in the middle of the night that is missing. Still, Deadspin’s report on the matter raises the possibility of other evidence: “The prosecution’s extremely detailed timeline contains exchanges and information that could not have been picked up by any surveillance camera, so it seems likely that someone involved in the incident has spoken to police.”

Lloyd was a 27-year-old semi-pro football player for the Boston Bandits. He was dating Hernandez’s fiancee’s sister.

The New England Patriots cut Hernandez from the team after the arrest, issuing a statement saying that “Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation.” The 23-year-old star tight end had signed a five-year, $40 million contract last summer.

When his first child was born in November, he said, “Now, another one is looking up to me. I can’t just be young and reckless Aaron no more. I’m going to try to do the right things.”
