Can ‘Avengers’ nab the opening weekend holy grail of $760 million?

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" will be released on May 1, and it is expected to outdo box office records set by "Avatar" and "Titanic."

Avengers: Age of Ultron is expected to break many box office records when it comes out on May 1. The movie has already been largely anticipated by many fans of comic books and movie goers for many months now.

It is believed that the sequel to The Avengers will outdo current hot box office release the Furious 7, who so far has grossed $1.35 billion. Disney, who owns Marvel, will sit back and relax and watch the numbers go through the roof as of Friday.

It is speculated that the super hero movie could even reach levels or even outdo James Cameron territory. Cameron’s Avatar movie back in 2009 has been the highest grossing film so far in the history of movie making. So far, the movie has levitated to an untouched amount of $2.79 billion.

Another James Cameron movie that is up with the elite in the box office movies is Titanic. This movie grossed $2.19 billion, and it remains as an impressive feat due to the fact that inflation is not accounted for since the movie was made in the 90s.

However, Avengers: Age of Ultron will be trying to break the opening weekend record first. Avatar still holds that title with $760 million, while Titanic sits in second with $659 million. The Avengers holds the third spot with $623 million.

In the end, it is believed that the sequel to The Avengers could possibly reach or outdo Avatar. Again, the opening weekend is the key to getting a rich start with the box office race, so Disney and Marvel will just have sit and relax until Monday’s results come around.
