Mike Pence will be the first sitting governor to assume the office of Vice President since Nelson Rockefeller.

With a glance at recent news one could deduce that Donald Trump is going to run his Presidency like a CEO. It certainly seems that way by the number of CEOs that he is bringing into his cabinet. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but I am saying it lends to the notion that Mike Pence will act more as a COO than most VPs we have seen in recent years.

The CEO is that face of the company. He is the visionary that does the public relations, maintains investor relations, and takes the blame when things go wrong. The COO (Chief Operating Officer) runs the operations of the company.  In many cases the CEO acts as the heart of the company while the COO acts as the mind. I won’t be surprised and I am actually encouraged by the idea of Pence running things.

During the elections I spoke with several people who were worried about Trump getting in to office and I mentioned Mike Pence as a reason to vote for Trump. They responded that the VP doesn’t really do anything. I’m not sure I agree with that because we don’t hear about a lot that go on behind scenes. However, I believe that Mike Pence is going to break that image of the VP.

Pence, like any good COO, has a plan for a 100-day agenda and a 200-day agenda given to him by Trump. He is poised to act as lobbyist for the issues on Trump’s agenda.  It seems Trump has the vision and Pence will iron out the details.  I predict more Tweets from Trump used to negotiate costs of things like Air Force One/Boeing Aircraft, starting discussions about flag burning and patriotism, and aiming at treating illegal immigration like it were something illegal. I expect to see more public speeches/tours from Trump trying to energize the people behind making America great again under his vision. Equally I expect Pence will be taking action on Trump’s words/tweets.

I’ve heard Pence described as a “right-wing extremist”. He is as much a right-wing extremist as Obama is a left-wing extremist. Trump has a liberal past prior to ever running for president. I believe that Pence will keep him grounded to the right-wing extremes that got him elected. I’ve always considered myself a conservative Libertarian (too conservative for the Republican party). After 8 years of extreme left-wing agenda, I welcome the change and hope this serves as a wake-up call to the two parties. Either way, the next 100 days will show if I am right about Pence acting more as a COO.
