Trump's popularity among working-class Americans has many political junkies baffled.
It’s not a good fit. Typically, rural and low-income American citizens do not rally behind a multi-millionaire such as Donald Trump, but for some reason, they are turning out in droves at the candidate’s rallies and political functions.
In fact, at first glance, you could even say that Trump is the kind of man that many would despise, either over envy at all his successes, or his arrogant demeanor and pompousness.
The stock answer is that Trump’s supporters are racist, a label that liberal ideologues throw out whenever they encounter a group of people that do not agree with them on social issues or religious beliefs. Much has been said about if supporting Trump, you wish for a return to the age of racial discrimination and keeping women barefoot and pregnant.
True, there are pockets of racist idiots scattered across the land, just as there are pockets of blacks that believe all police are evil, and pockets of Muslims that believe it is their divine duty to kill all infidels. And there will likely always be such fringe groups.
Even in the most totalitarian regimes, there are pockets of resistance, probably justified, but the point is no one and no form of government can control the minds of all of its citizens. History has borne this out time after time.
Yes, Trump’s unlikely supporters do long for a different America, but it is one different from the picture painted by the libs and the press. You see, the trust in the American government is at one of its lowest points, and the trust in the media, once the watchdog for corruption in government, is even lower.
Most Americans feel the system is not working in their favor. Many rural communities across the US were built around a local industry, and a local economy, and for the past 20+ years, they have seen those industries re-locate to foreign countries, or be forced out of business, being unable to compete with larger national corporations.
