When asked if the ban would include Muslim travelers as well as immigrants, Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski simply said, "Everyone."
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump called for a ban Monday in which Muslims would be blocked from entering the United States. CNN reports that Trump said in a news report, “Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.”
Recently Donald Trump has called for surveillance around mosques and Muslim places of worship, as well as stating that he would be willing to establish a database for all U.S. Muslims. In the news release, Trump referenced an online poll from the Center for Security Policy, which said that about a quarter of U.S. Muslims believe that violent acts against Americans are justified and part of a worldwide jihadist campaign. The credibility of the poll and the organization has since been questioned.
When asked if the ban would include Muslim travelers as well as immigrants, Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski simply said, “Everyone.”
Lewandowski did not answer other questions posed about what the ban would mean for Muslim Americans and Muslims already legally in the U.S. In a statement from Trump, given by Lewandowski, Trump said, “People that are looking to destroy our country must be reported and turned in by the good people who love our country and want America to be great again.”
Trump has received criticisms in recent weeks, claiming that he is bigoted against Muslims. When asked by CNN Saturday if he felt Muslims pose a danger to the U.S., he stated that he thinks Muslims are “great people.”
