Syrians accuse the American coalition of destroying Syrian targets in Aleppo

The Syrians accused the Americans of targeting and destroying certain Syrian bases in the northern city of Aleppo. The American led coalition denies the attacks and said they had no warplanes over the crowded skies of Aleppo.

The Syrians have accused the American led coalition of launching airstrikes against a Syrian military position on Sunday that killed three soldiers and caused untold destruction in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo. The American led coalition assured the Syrian commanders that they had no warplanes operating in that arena at the time. The skies over Syria have been rather crowded of late and tensions have heightened.

The American spokesman, Colonel Steve Warren, stated that coalition planes were conducting air strikes on Sunday but in an area that was over 30 miles from any Syrian position, according to The Washington Post. Colonel Warren, who is based in Bagdad, also mentioned that the Russians had been conducting air attacks at the same time but did not mention where the Russian warplanes were at the time the Syrian base was attacked.

Those forces battling against Syrian president Assad and his forces accused the Syrians of killing civilian and destroying civilian targets in Aleppo. The accusations by the Syrian forces presents a problem in the region that no one really wants to see get out of hand. Both Russian and coalition air forces are conducting air strikes in the same skies at the same time. No one wants an accidental encounter to happen between the Russian and American fighters. Also, now that Britain has joined the air war, the possibility for calamity looms larger in the fight against the Islamic State.

The Syrian foreign minister called the attack one of “heinous aggression.” They complained to the United Nations and demanded that the international body do something about the attack. The Syrians and the Americans stand at opposite ends of the Syrian civil war. The Syrians, with the help of the Russians, want to restore Assad to power while the American coalition wants Assad out for a more collaborative regime in the region.

The Syrians declared that coalition warplanes had killed 3 soldiers and injured another 13 after launching 9 rockets into a Syrian base. The attack is also said to have destroyed several military vehicle’s, including armored vehicles, as well as destroying an arms depot and a couple of heavy machine gun emplacements.
