Newly engaged British warplanes carry out strikes on Islamic State oil fields

British warplanes have joined the fight against the Islamic State in Syria and their air strikes have been highly effective so far in targeting the Islamic State's major source of revenue.

Warplanes of Britain’s Royal Air Force have carried out a pair of air strikes on Islamic State oil fields. Since England entered the side of the American led coalition in Syria and Iraq, their fighter planes have conducted air strikes directed at crippling the major source of funding for the Islamic State.

British Tornado fighter jets have carried out air strikes against Islamic State positions for 2 consecutive days as the British intend to keep up the pressure, reports The Guardian. The British government had admitted that it will be a long and protracted affair but is determined to assist the coalition with the future destruction of the Islamic State.

England’s minister of defense stated that the attacks, as well as the British presence in Syria, has the full approval of both the government and the British people. The minister said that Britain was dedicated to eliminating the Islamic State threat before they could do the same to as many Western nations as possible.

British warplanes flew flights over much of Syria on Friday night to gather as much intelligence as they could for those forces that are fighting the Islamic State on the ground. In addition, British Tornado fighters roared into northern Iraq in supportive air strikes to assist Iraqi ground forces that were engaging with the Islamic State army in and around the strategic city of Ramadi.

The American led coalition forces made 21 air strikes overnight in both parts of Syria and Iraq. Once again, on Saturday morning, coalition forces struck at known Islamic State oil fields in the northern dessert of Syria. The Islamic State sells the oil it has secured by force on the black market. However, coalition targeting has been most effective as their oil production has been greatly crippled.

In April of this year, the Islamic State was selling 100,000-150,000 barrels of oil a day on the black market at $10-$15 per barrel. As of this week, the Islamic State is only able to sell around 10,000 barrels of oil a day as coalition air strikes have been doing heavy damage to their supply lines.
