At least 20 people were shot Wednesday at an office in San Bernardino, California. Officials are attempting to locate the active shooters.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the shooting took place at a social services building, in the 1300 block of Waterman Avenue, around 11 a.m. Pacific Time. A spokesperson for the San Bernardino Police Department, told press that up to three gunmen were reported to be inside the Inland Regional Center. The building has not been secured.
The suspects are thought to be heavily armed and wearing body armor. Sgt. Vicki Cervantes says, “Its a very active scene.”
Police and firefighters are on the scene, and helping to escort people in the area away from the scene. The location of the shooting, Inland Regional Center, helps to provide services to the disabled and those in need. According to the website, the center aims to, “help provide each individual with a service system that helps identify and eliminate barriers for individuals with developmental disabilities.”
Local businesses were affected by the shooting. Employees and guests at San Bernardino Golf Club were placed on lock down as a precaution. Tom Brown, an employee of the golf course said, “We’re several hundred yards away from the area. We can see fire and SWAT from here, but we’re not allowed to go any farther.”
Buses, usually used by the San Bernardino City Unified School District, are using their buses to transport people away from the scene of the shooting.
