A bold and daring armored truck robbery occurred on Friday in Detroit. The bold and brazen thief had disguised himself as a security guard and walked right up the armored truck. The thief was disguised as a company security guard for the Loomis company.

The thief walked right up to the driver of the truck at around 8AM on Friday morning and asked the driver to open up the back doors. The driver, who was parked outside of a casino, obliged thinking the thief was just another Loomis employee. The thief grabbed all of the money bags he could and made a run for it. The thief is still at large and it is estimated that the thief got away with over $500,000 in cash, according to NBC News. The casino is located in the city’s Greektown section.

The thief is described as a black male. Because the thief was wearing a Loomis security guard shirt, the driver of the armored van readily assumed that he was a fellow employee come to help out with the pick up and the rest of the day’s route. Police continue to question the driver of the armored truck.

A spokeswoman for the Detroit police department said that it was an ongoing investigation and that they were actively looking for the thief. The Detroit police spokeswoman also stated that every one was glad that no one was hurt in the robbery.

The FBI has become involved in the robbery and area surveillance cameras are being thoroughly checked for clues as to the identity of the thief. The Loomis driver said that the thief was unarmed and made no threats at all. He simply asked that the back of the truck be opened. The next thing the driver knew, the thief was gone with over a half million dollars in cash.
