NFL NEWS: The Jacksonville Jaguars remained in playoff contention as they got by the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night, 19-13. The NFL also continues to roll out their 'Color Rush' uniforms to the horror of fans everywhere.
With just a little over 3 minutes left in the game, a 63 yard punt return set up a 5 yard touchdown pass for the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-6) to overtake the hapless Tennessee Titans (2-8), 19-13, in Thursday night NFL action. Despite their less than stellar record, the Jaguars are still in contention to win the less than stellar AFC South.
It is the first time in two years that Jacksonville has managed to win 2 games in a row, reports USA Today. With 3:30 left in the game, Tennessee punted the ball to the Jaguars and punt returner Rashad Greene returned the ball 63 yards to the Titans 5 yard line. This set up and easy touchdown pass from Jaguars quarterback Brett Bortles to Julius Thomas for the eventual margin of victory. The Jaguars went ahead on that play 16-13 and kicked away to the Titans. The Titans, however, fumbled the ball which was recovered by the Jaguars. That led to another Jacksonville field goal with a little over 2 minutes left to seal the game at 19-13.
For the struggling Titans, it was their 8th loss in their last 9 games. The Jaguars, though, had to rely on four field goals for the win as they were not able to punch the ball in for touchdowns on their first three possessions. On every one of those possessions they were inside the Titans 20 yard line but had to come away with field goals.
Jaguars quarterback Brett Bortles finished the night going 21 of 30 for 242 yards with an interception. On one Jacksonville possession, the Jags had first and goal from the 7 and had three straight running plays stopped at the line by the Titans defense. Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Marriota did everything he could to try and win the game. He went 22 of 35 for 231 while running for a Titans touchdown.
The National Football League seems to be continuing their tweeking of a game that most fans find just fine except for a few things here and there. The league’s latest folly is their new Color Rush uniforms in which the entire uniform is of one color. No one knows why they are doing it unless there has been a huge outcry from the Millennials about it.
Last night’s game was a horror show of color. Jacksonville sported the ugliest of brown mustard colored uniforms while the Titans were bathed all in some manner of soothing baby blue. This recent NFL brainstorm has not been getting good reviews. This comes on the heels of a previous game between the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets. The Bills were all in red and the Jets were all in green.
Turns out that color blind fans couldn’t see red or blue and had a devil of a time trying to figure out what was going on all game long. It is hoped by many fans that the league will review this Color Rush idea and mercifully allow it to come to a complete and utter halt.
