The bodies of two dead newborns were discovered on Sunday in an alley in Philadelphia. Police say that their umbilical cords were still attached and that the bodies had been autopsied.
Two newborn babies with their umbilical cords still attached were found dead by two young children in Philadelphia on Sunday. The bodies were found by a 9-year-old and a 12-year-old while they were playing near an alley that sits next to a used car lot and is extensively used for illegal dumping.
Police investigators rushed to the 1800 block of North Palethorp Street in the Kensington section of North Philadelphia. The bodies were that of a male and a female infant. Not only were the umbilical cords still attached, but it appeared as if both bodies had been autopsied, according to Philly.com. The police believe a black pickup truck may be linked to the bodies as one was seen pulling away from the alley shortly before the discovery.
The police were shocked at the discovery and the 12-year-old mentioned that he thought the two dead bodies were actually dolls. The bodies lay strewn among the trash, partially hidden by an old discarded television, paint cans and other assorted garbage. The 12-year-old went home and told his father what he had seen, but his father initially dismissed the young boy’s claims. The next day, however, the boy kept repeating what he saw and his father decided that there may, indeed, be two dead babies in the alley.
The dead newborns were both blue and laying in fetal positions. Each body showed deep cuts and incisions into the stomachs and heads. Authorities determined that the babies were only about a day or two old. The police were told by the medical examiner on the scene that the two bodies had been autopsied.
Police have cordoned off the area and are going to check nearby security cameras to see if they captured anything. Police said they are not treating the situation as a murder.
