Anonymous Joins in the Fight as They Declare War on the Islamic State

Anonymous announced that they, too, have declared war on the Islamic State. In prepared statements, the online activist group said that the Islamic State had better be prepared because they were coming after them.

Online activist group Anonymous recently released a video in which they officially declared war on the Islamic State. They are doing this in retaliation and revenge for the murderous attacks carried out by the Islamic State on Friday in Paris. The group has already launched an early attack by shutting down various Twitter accounts associated with the Islamic State. The Islamic State uses Twitter as a way to communicate with its far flung forces throughout the world. Anonymous recently tweeted that they had already compromised 2,250 Islamic State Twitter accounts.

The group has been keeping an eye on the Islamic State for quite sometime, but recently decided it was time to step up their efforts to help in taking them out for good, reports The International Business Times. The attacks in Paris by the Islamic State have left 129 dead and nearly 400 severely wounded.

A video was posted on YouTube in which Anonymous declared their intention. A hooded figure wearing the now legendary Guy Fawkes mask said that the Islamic State could “expect massive cyber attacks. War is declared. Get prepared. ” The Anonymous broadcaster spoke in French and the video has since been removed from YouTube.

The announcer also went on to say, “Anonymous from all over the world will hunt you down. You should know that we will find you and we will not let you go. We will launch the biggest operation ever against you.” The English version of the video can still be accessed online.

The group normally puts in place a denial of service attack against someone who has angered them. With the Islamic State, however, Anonymous has directed its agents to actually hack into and penetrate all Islamic State websites. From there they are to steal what vital information and intelligence it can.

The Islamic State has made no reply or comment to Anonymous’ declaration of war. Anonymous first arose in 2003 and has attacked many businesses and organizations that they feel have taken advantage of people. They have successfully launched cyber attack campaigns against such businesses and organizations as PayPal, MasterCard, Sony and the Church of Scientology. They recently went after the Ku Klux Klan by publishing online the names of thousands of current members of the racist organization.
