The popular and pregnant wife of an equally popular Christian pastor was murdered in Indianapolis in what police are investigating as a homicide that occurred during a robbery attempt at the couple's home.
Police in Indianapolis are reporting that Amanda Blackburn, 28, was shot in the head during what the police are considering to be a robbery attempt in her home. Blackburn, who was pregnant with her first child, was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on Thursday. The Marion County coroners office stated that they believe her death is a homicide. The coroner’s office said that her unborn baby did not survive her death.
Amanda Blackburn and her Christian pastor husband, Davey, had been living in Indianapolis since coming there in 2012 from South Carolina, according to The Washington Post. They moved to Indy to establish a dream they had together. They wanted to start a Christian church for those people who felt alienated by established churches. Their dream became the Resonate Church.
In a public statement, Davey Blackburn said, “It’s impossible to communicate all of the emotions my heart has been forced to process. My wife was such a beautiful, gracious, loving woman of God. I have not only lost my ministry partner and support but also my very best friend. There is no way to prepare yourself for circumstances like these.”
Indianapolis police are holding the investigation close and are not revealing too many details. According to some reports, Davey Blackburn had returned home from the gym on Tuesday to find that his home had been broken into and that his wife was dead on the floor.
Indianapolis police have ruled Davey Blackburn out as a suspect as time stamped video from the gym place him there during the time of the robbery and the murder. Police have also ruled out other immediate family members. Police have not revealed if there were actual signs of a break in or if Blackstone had tried to fight off her intruder.
This particular Indianapolis section and neighborhood has been the victim of many robberies and break-ins of late report police. The police expect to hold a news conference some time on Friday.
