Starbucks Landed in Middle of Supposed War on Christmas

Starbucks seems to have been dragged into a supposed "war on Christmas" despite its best efforts to simply just do what it does best - sell coffee.

It all started innocently enough, but as of Monday Starbucks seems to have landed right in the middle of a supposed “war on Christmas.” It all started when the coffee purveyor introduced a minimalist red cup that they plan to use during the holiday season.

The company explained that they just wanted to keep things simple this season. The holiday cup is a plain red design with the familiar green Starbucks logo on it. That’s it. In the past, the company has decorated their holiday cups with snowflakes, wreaths and reindeer but this year they wanted to go with simplicity, reports The Washington Post.

The company has gone on the offensive after being accused of fanning the flames with regard to what many say is an imaginary war on Christmas. The red cups have been introduced to announce the company’s new “exclusive Christmas blend…” The company pointed out that their 300,000 employees come from all ethnic and religious, or non-religious, backgrounds.

Many Christian conservatives have become riled up over the years believing that Christmas is no longer looked upon as a sacred Christian holiday. They declare that secular humanism and capitalism have created a “war on Christmas.” The conservatives’ efforts got a boost on Monday from presidential contender Donald Trump. Trump called out Starbucks at a rally in Illinois and suggested that there was no more Christmas at Starbucks and that perhaps everyone should boycott the company.

Trump has been chasing conservative Christian voters hard and remarked on Monday that “If I become president, we’re all going to be saying ‘Merry Christmas’ again. That I can tell you.”
