Three teams are still undefeated as the Patriots and the Panthers continue to roll along while the Denver Broncos lost for the first time this season.
With half of the NFL season already played, having three teams in the league who have yet to lose is a rather surprising and unpredicted development. Few are surprised that the New England Patriots look to be running the table but Cincinnati and Carolina? Both of those teams have been playing some exceptional football and will be Super Bowl 50 contenders come the end of the season.
Once again, The New England Patriots (8-0) look like a machine on a mission and that mission is to win a fifth Super Bowl championship. They had little trouble on Sunday dismantling the hapless Washington Redskins (3-5), 27-10, according to The Los Angeles Times. Tom Brady was his regular astounding self going 26 of 39 for 299 yards and two touchdown passes including one on their first possession. The Patriots were up 14-0 before the Redskins even had a chance to go on offense.
The Denver Broncos (7-1) were undefeated going into their game against Indianapolis Colts (4-5) but the Colts pulled the upset by winning 27-24 on an Adam Vinateri field goal with less than seven minutes to go in the game. Despite a three game losing streak and a losing record, the Colts are still in first place in their division. The game was tied at 17 in the fourth quarter when Colts quarterback Andrew Luck let loose to cap off a brilliant day. He went 21 of 36 for 252 yards and put them ahead with a touchdown on a masterful fourth quarter drive.
The Carolina Panthers (8-0) continue to be the surprise in the NFC as they took down the Super Bowl contending Green Bay Packers (6-2) by a convincing 37-29. Cam Newton has proven this year that he belongs in the elite class of NFL quarterbacks. Newton threw for three touchdowns and scrambled for another as he is proving to be a one man wrecking crew that the rest of the league had best respect. Newton finished 15 for 30 and 297 yards.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was his typical brilliant self as he fired four touchdown passes and threw for 369 yards. The Packers were down by more than three touchdowns in the final quarter and Rodgers came very close to rallying them for the win but the Panthers defense hung on to seal the win.
