NFL NEWS: The Cincinnati Bengals moved themselves to a perfect 8-0 on the season by crushing the rival Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.
The Cincinnati Bengals (8-0) continued on perfect cruise control on Thursday night by totally dismantling the Cleveland Browns (2-7) in the second half. The struggling Browns were making a game of it in the first half as they were led by the unpredictable Johnny Manziel at quarterback. But in the end, the Bengals were too overwhelming and won the game, 31-10.
Young Johnny Football looked like everything the Browns are expecting him to be. At least he was in the first half which ended at a surprising 14-10 in favor of the Bengals. It was the second half that told the tale of this game as Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton took control and the Bengals put on a clinic. The Bengals had lit the fire under themselves coming off of a huge and emotional victory last Sunday against the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, according to USA Today.
Manziel and the Browns struggled mightily in the second half. Manziel finished 15 0f 33 for only 158 yards and the Bengals defense sacked him three times. The Browns only managed 32 total yards and a pair of first downs during the second half. No one has upped his game more this year than Bengals QB Dalton. Dalton finished up the game going 21 of 27 for 234 yards and a couple of touchdown throws.
Manziel looked as if he could lead the Browns to a stunning upset with his play in the first half. He put together a 10 play, 92 yards drive for a touchdown that was as impressive as anything Tom Brady or Peyton Manning could have cobbled together. The wheels on the Browns wagon, however, fell off and rolled off the cliff during the second half.
Manziel took much of the second half disaster upon himself. Once the Browns began to fall behind, Manziel said he was trying to force some big plays and was trying to do everything himself instead of just making simple completions and picking up first downs. The Browns defense was simply not up to the task and were greatly hampered by having four of their starting players out of action with concussions.
