A Hunger Games Theme Park is opening in Atlanta in 2019.
Lionsgate recently confirmed a Hunger Games Theme Park in Dubai to be opened in 2016. On November 1 The New York Times confirmed The Hunger Games dystopian world would come alive in a United States theme park as well. It will be part of Avatron Park in Atlanta, GA, which is already a unique theme park that combines technology and entertainment. Avatron Park is also where most of The Hunger Games franchise was filmed.
Even though the Dubai Hunger Games park will be opening in about a year, the one in Atlanta is not planned for opening until about 2019. There is also another park scheduled to open in Macau, China. The parks will have an assortment of attractions based on the movie.
The Dubai Park is built by Dubai Parks and Resorts and has areas devoted to DreamWorks Animation, Sony Pictures, and Lionsgate. The Lionsgate section will be mostly Hunger Games related and include details from the books and movies. After going through the gates guests enter a re-creation of District 12 where Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark were from. In this area there will be a recreation of the Hob Black Markey and the Mellark’s bakery.
Not only will there recreations of familiar scenes there will also be characters in costume. There will be a roller coaster that represents the very fast train that moves the Panem people from District to District in the Hunger Games. Replicating the setting of Hunger Games in the park allows for a immersive experience for the visitors. This might make people apprehensive because the movie is about killing however according to Daily Mail the producers “insist it will be an intelligent approach to the story.”
Lionsgate would make around $100 million a year because of how popular the Hunger Games franchise is. They will be making even more money off of people who are interested in other Lionsgate films that will be included in the park such as Step Up, Now You See Me, and Divergent.
