The New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants smashed 13 NFL records on Sunday in a wild shootout that had the Saints coming out of the dust for the win, 52-49.
The New Orleans Saints (4-4) emerged from one of the wildest shootouts in NFL history on Sunday as the took down the New York Giants (4-4) in a thriller, 52-49. New York quarterback Eli Manning is still shaking his head in disbelief. Manning went 30-41 and 350 yards including throwing six touchdown passes and still the Giants lost the game. It’s not often that a team scores 49 points in a game and loses.
Unless, of course, you ran into Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. Brees match Manning’s proficiency and did him a few better. Brees ended up going 40-50 and 511 yards with seven touchdowns. The combined 13 touchdown passes broke the NFL record for most TD passes in a single game, according to The Los Angeles Times. The Saints have, indeed, been marching in as they have won their last three games after starting the season at a dismal 0-3.
The Denver Broncos stayed unbeaten as they took down the mighty Green Bay Packers, 29-10. The Packers were looking unbeatable and likely to run the table in the NFC until the Broncos put a serious hold on that dream. The high powered Broncos defense, once again, put a big scare into an opposing quarterback as Aaron Rodgers ended up having one of the worst games of his career.
The Broncos defense held Rodgers to just 77 passing yards the entire game. On the other side of the ball, Peyton Manning seemed to shake off the rust that has been plaguing him all year and threw for 340 yards on 21 completions. That was Manning’s 186th career win tying him with Brett Favre for most wins by a quarterback all time.
After Week 8, only four teams remain unbeaten; the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers and the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals had to do it with a heroic come from behind win against the Pittsburg Steelers while the Carolina Panthers await the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night.
The Patriots continued to dominate as they pounded Miami last Thursday, 36-7.
