The New England Patriots continue to be an offensive and defensive juggernaut. After two previously impressive games by the Dolphins, Miami finally got a reality check on Thursday night.
The New England Patriots (7-0) continued their unbeaten and unchallenged ways on Thursday night as they soundly crushed the Miami Dolphins (3-4) by a final of 36-7. The Dolphins, who have dominated their own opponents in the last two games, including a lopsided victory last week against the Houston Texans, finally got their reality check last night in Foxboro.
The national media had been very high on the recent performances of the Miami Dolphins since they switched head coaches two games ago. The problem was, however, Miami had not played against such an unstoppable juggernaut as the New England Patriots, reports USA Today. The Patriots are on a mission since being accused of deflating some game balls in last year’s AFC Championship game. Their mission, it seems, will not be considered successful by them until the win back to back Super Bowl’s.
The Patriots offense continues to be a scoring machine as teams are realizing that they will have to put up at least 30 points a game to even have a chance of beating them. The New England defense, however, is beginning to jell in a way that is going to make the Patriots very scary if everyone stays healthy. Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones continues to lead a formidable Patriots pass rush as he had two sacks in the game to put his league leading total at 8.5. The Patriots managed to sack Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill a total five times last night.
The Dolphins had 428 yards rushing in their last two games but managed only 15 rushing yards against the Patriots defense. The defense has been invaluable to Tom Brady’s offensive machine. When Brady needs to tweek things here and there, the defense has been stepping up to give Brady the time to do that.
Even at age 38, Tom Brady continues to look like the Hall of Famer he is destined to be. On Thursday night against the Dolphins, Brady went 26 of 38 passes for 356 yards and four touchdown passes. So far this season, he has thrown for 2,140 yards and 20 touchdowns. He has thrown only one interception all season and it really wasn’t his fault. In one game, he fired a bullet at Julian Edleman who bobbled it. The ball bounced right into the hands of a defender.
With little competition on the horizon for the rest of the season, the Patriots look as if a return trip to the Super Bowl is pretty much assured.
