An 18 year old teenage boy died of a gunshot wound on Thursday in Normandy, Missouri. The police say it was a self inflicted suicide while the boy's parents, and other witnesses, say he was killed by police.
Amonderez Green, 18, of Florissant, Missouri, died on Thursday from a gunshot wound that is being actively investigated. The police report that Green died of a self inflicted gunshot wound while police were chasing him. Other witnesses, and the boy’s parents, think that young Green was shot and killed by the police while in pursuit.
The Normandy, Missouri, police say that the investigation into the incident is ongoing but have publicly stated that Green was not shot by any of their police officers, according to The Huffington Post. Witnesses to the incident, however, disagree with the police accounts of what happened. The police are calling Green’s death a suicide.
Green’s father called the police explanation an outright lie and that his son was shot and died from police gunfire. Witnesses claim that Green was shot by the police and several videos have been loaded up to YouTube regarding the incident. One witness, who remains anonymous due to safety concerns, stated that she was looking out her window at the encounter when she saw police shoot Green in the face.
The incident began when the police were called to the Green home by a 911 call. Police say when they confronted Green, the boy pulled a gun from his pants and fired a shot at one of the police officers. The police say that the officer then tried to take Green down with a stun gun but the effort failed. The police officer then fired off three rounds all of which missed Green, the police account states.
Police then go on to say that Green fled from them and ran away. The officers followed on foot but claimed they lost him. The police said they then heard a gunshot and when they got to where they had heard it, Green was down. They say Green shot himself under the chin. Emergency room personnel publicly agreed with the police account that the gunshot wound was self inflicted.
The witness said that she saw the entire thing happen outside her window. She said everyone was at her eye level and that Green was shot by an officer. “It was not a suicide at all”, she said. Another witness, who lived three doors down, went outside and saw Green running down the street. He said Green turned to face the police and that was when, he said, a police officer shot Green in the face.
