South Carolina Police Officer Violently Attacks a Student in a Classroom

A female high school student was violently assaulted by a sheriff's deputy in a classroom in front of a roomful of students.

A South Carolina sheriff’s deputy has been put on leave and faces possible charges for violently attacking a female high school student. It was caught on cell phone video and has since gone viral. The community outrage has been quite vocal and is expected only to become more intense with each passing day.

The incident happened at Spring Valley High School in Richland County, Virginia, according to CNN. Apparently, the female student was asked to leave the room by the teacher. When she refused to leave the classroom, the sheriff’s department was called. Sheriff’s deputy Ben Fields went to the school and entered the classroom. Fields, it seems, is the “school resource officer”. No one has explained what that title actually means.

Fields walked over to where the female student was sitting and began to aggressively confront the teenager. Fields was recorded saying to the student that, “You’re either going to come with me, or I am going to make you.” The teenager, again, refused to leave her seat. That was when Fields physically attacked her.

Fields grabbed her hair and yanked her backwards while reaching under and lifting her legs. This caused the chair, and the teenage girl, to fall backwards as she and her chair crashed to the ground. That, apparently, wasn’t enough for Fields. He, then, picked her up and threw her and dragged her several feet across the room where he landed on her and violently detained her.

The teacher, and all of the students in he classroom, simply watched or turned away. No one said anything. No one did anything. They all just allowed it to happen.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott returned from a trip and watched the video. The sheriff declared that he had been highly disturbed by the whole thing. Fields is on administrative leave while the young female student was arrested and charged with a crime called “disturbing schools.”

Fields has been sued twice within the last ten years for excessive force and battery.
