POP NEWS: Downey, Jr. Surprises Sick Fan; Stewart Opens Animal Sanctuary

Actor Robert Downey, Jr. surprises a sick young fan by dressing up as the loveable Tigger while Jon Stewart and his wife are transforming their farm into an animal sanctuary.

Actor Robert Downey, Jr. took time out from his extremely busy Hollywood schedule to send a greeting to a young fan who is in the hospital suffering from cystic fibrosis. After a heartfelt letter from the young boy’s mother, Downey, Jr. donned a Tigger costume straight out of the pages of Winnie the Pooh and immediately sent it along to the young boy and his mother. Sometimes, a cuddly and bouncy superhero is needed.

The young fan, Daniel Keyte, is seven years old and his hero is, of course, Iron Man, reports USA Today. The young boy’s mother, Vicky Keyte, reached out to the actor with a heartfelt tweet that inspired Downey, Jr. to action. His mother explained that Iron Man is Daniel’s hero because he confronts and overcomes his tormentors. Daniel had been suffering because he has been severely bullied almost daily at school. Meeting or receiving a kind word from his hero would be wonderful. Vicky hoped that “Mr. Stark” could reach out with some comfort for Daniel as his bullying in school is non-stop and many of the bullies at school told him he was going to die from the cystic fibrosis.

So, Downey, Jr. jumped into his Tigger costume, snapped some shots, and sent them along to Vicky and Daniel with some heartfelt remarks. He also invited Daniel to be his special guest at the upcoming Los Angeles premier of “Captain America: Civil War.”

Jon Stewart, the former star and host of The Daily Show, has begun to turn his New Jersey estate into a wildlife refuge and sanctuary. Along with his wife, Tracey, they are turning their Jersey farm into a place for neglected and abused farm animals, according to USA Today.

The couple made the announcement as they were honored at a dinner recently by the animal rescue group, Farm Sanctuary. Their New Jersey farm, located in Middleton, New Jersey, will be the fourth such sanctuary affiliated with Farm Sanctuary. The organization has been dedicated, since 1986, to eliminating factory farming and to bring more public awareness to the struggling plight of farm animals.
