Fake Target employee trolls angry customers on Facebook

A man pretending to represent Target sarcastically responded to people on Facebook who angrily complained about Target's new gender neutral policy -- hilarity ensued.

Target’s announcement last week that it would take a gender-neutral approach to signage in its stores brought a wave of angry comments — and one brave Internet troll was ready to take them all on.

Target announced it wouldn’t designate items as being for “boys” or “girls” anymore, like in the case of toys or bedding, prompting scores of conservatives on Facebook to rip the retailer for being politically correct, according to a Huffington Post report.

Facebook is often the place where people come to lash out at a company that takes a controversial position, and Target was no exception. So Mike Melgaard decided to jump into the fray, pretending to be a Target customer service rep by making a fake Facebook account called “Ask ForHelp” and using the Target logo as his profile picture. He then carefully respond to a wide variety of comments — sarcasm fully on display.

When one woman said that “my family of both sexes … will shop elsewhere” due to the “Politically Correct nonsense that has overtaken common sense,” Melgaard responded — under his fake account, of course — that “we applaud you for the bravery in admitting that your family has both sexes. It’s customers like you who gives us a sense of purpose.”

The woman was apparently not in on the joke, saying she thinks Target “responded in the manner in which I expected. Just very disappointed in your organization…”

Another woman ripped Target for being “out of your minds,” and that she would want to know where the girls things are. Melgaard replied that Target finds it “hilarious when older customers such as yourself come in and get lost/confused.”

The official Target account even weighed in — sort of. It posted a very tongue-in-cheek picture of trolls — the popular dolls — standing in a Titanic-like pose with the caption, “Remember when Trolls were the kings of the world? Woo hoo! They’re back and only at Target stores.”
