Donald Trump will be taking a break from his Republican presidential race activities to participate in his civic obligation: jury duty in Manhattan.
As of Monday morning, Mr. Trump will be expected to serve in State Supreme Court in Manhattan, according to his executive vice president at the Trump Organization and his special counsel, Michael Cohen. And Trump has happily accepted the summons and vows to be there.
Regardless of his busy campaign schedule, set appearance at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday and jury duty summons, Mr. Cohen has assured the public that his bid for the Republican nomination will not be slowing down, according to The New York Times.
“Despite the time that Mr. Trump is required to fulfill this civic obligation, the campaign will continue to go on,” Mr. Cohen said. “He is happy to comply with his civic obligation.”
But this may be the first time in a long time that Trump is “happily” attending to his civic duty with a smile. Over the past few years, Mr. Trump has failed to appear for jury duty several times and just this year, was fined $250 for it.
But as Mr. Cohen has stated, Mr. Trump did not purposefully miss all of those jury duty requests. He said that all of the summonses were sent to an address on Central Park South where Trump has never lived, and therefore, never received the summonses. Due to this information, Mr. Cohen has said that they gladly waived the fee.
“Mr. Trump’s failure to appear for previous jury requests was the result of the unified court system’s error in the mailing address, and not Mr. Trump’s refusal to uphold his civic duty,” he said. “It is impossible to know if you are being asked to serve when the jury selection documents are sent to someone else’s home.”
