Houston authorities arrested a 49-year old man at his residence after an intense standoff between their deputies and the man who was standing in front of a home.
After the man, David R. Conley, was coaxed away from the home by Houston hostage negotiators without any unwanted incident, they entered the home to investigate the property, according to The Washington Post.
Authorities reported that they entered into a horrific scene inside the house. The assistant district attorney, Celeste Byrom, said: “He restrained, shot and killed eight people”
Conley was charged on multiple counts of capital murder for the bodies of five children and three adults that they found inside the home. He was ordered to be held without bail.
The home was reported by Byrom not to be his own. Authorities said that he was able to gain access to the inside of the home through an unlocked window which is when he then restrained the victims using handcuffs before shooting each of them in the back of the head.
A spokesperson for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas Gilliland, said that the relationship between Conley and the eight victims is still unclear. They do know that the victims ranged in age from six to 60. At this time, only four of the victim’s identifies have been released: Valerie Jackson, Jonah Jackson, 6, Trinity Jackson and Nathaniel Conley.
Chief deputy Tim Cannon expressed on behalf of everybody involved, that the degree of violence of the crime was almost unexplainable and certainly unfathomable.
“We’re here today on a very sad day,” Cannon said. “We’re here with our brothers in arms standing behind us because we’re all hurting. It’s a difficult day for us at sheriff’s office. Once again, a tragedy has struck…our city. Our hearts go out to those…affected by this tragedy.”
