Cadillac is after the Germans, unleashing an all new American muscle sedan

Cadillac's new 2016 CTS-V aims to take on the big dogs of the sedan import market, like BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus.

Get ready, Europe, there’s a bold competitor after some market share when it comes to the powerful luxury sedans: it’s the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V sedan, which hopes to carve out a chunk of a market dominated by European manufacturers.

Cadillac is looking to bring a little bit of American muscle to a car class typically ruled by the Germans, and its new offering, which will retail at nearly $100,000, was debuted deep in the heart of Wisconsin at Road America, a 4-mile track that allows Cadillac to show off to an interest public the capabilities of the CTS-V, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The car is very American at its heart, as it is large and it is very, very fast, reaching speeds of up to 200 miles per hour. Of course, its size means it is a bit on the weighty side, and the reviewer for the Journal described it as a bit Trump-ish in terms of its style.

However, the CUE system touch screen is a major upgrade over past dashboards, and the car has a lot more room. Its engine boasts a huge amount of power, and this might be the big selling point of the vehicle. It has a 6.2-liter direct injection system and a two-valve V8, cranking out 640 horsepower and boating up to 6,400 RPMs at its max. The car can get up to 200 miles per hour, making it one of the fastest cars around, and it can get up to 60 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds.

The car also showed that it can be fairly smooth and graceful despite taking some hairpin turns at high speed, impressing the reviewer even when on bad pavement.

The CTS-V may be Cadillac’s best chance at grabbing market share from the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, and the Lexus GS 350.
