Astonishing report: Huge success for Obamacare in California

A whopping 70 percent of people who were uninsured in the Sunshine State are now covered thanks to Obamacare.

A stunning two-thirds of Californians who had been uninsured before the passage of the Affordable Care Act — better known as “Obamacare” — now have medical coverage.

The Kaiser Family Foundation released a survey on Thursday that found that people who previously were uninsured now are getting their medical needs met thanks to the law, according to a Los Angeles Times report.

The survey examined 2,001 adults in California who had not been insured before the ACA passed back in 2014. A survey released a year ago had found that 58 percent of Californians who were uninsured signed up for coverage in the very first enrollment period.

About 32 percent of Californians remain uninsured, a figure that was at 42 percent back in the spring of 2014. Those will the most challenging to get insured under Obamacare, the foundation stated according to the report.

The margin of error for the survey was plus or minus 4 percentage points.

So what are the excuses of those who have not signed up yet? The most common reason is many say they still can’t afford it, with that being the cited reason in 44 percent of cases. About 40 percent of them are people who have never had insurance in the past and apparently don’t intend to start now.

The other most common reason for being uninsured at 41 percent was that those people are illegal immigrants, and are therefore barred from signing up under Obamacare.

However, there has been a push in the state to allow healthcare for immigrants, with Gov. Jerry Brown approving a plan in the last month that would allow children of illegal aliens to have healthcare, although it would still bar the adults.
