A new picture from the 91 year old put out on social media shows that the former president hasn't lost his sense of humor.
Former President George H.W. Bush fell in his Maine summer home not too long ago, but he’s OK despite fracturing a bone in his neck: he tweeted out a picture with the thumbs-up sign.
The elder Bush went through neck surgery to repair the damage from the fall. The 91-year-old father of former president George W. Bush — who served two terms after being elected president in 2000 — and current Republican presidential contender Jeb Bush spent quite a bit of time of his own in public office, service as president from 1989 through 1993 and before that as vice president for Ronald Reagan.
Although it’s doubtful that Bush himself is active on Twitter, a tweet was sent out on his behalf showing a smiling Bush Senior showing the thumbs up and sporting a neck brace, with the comment “Who knew jumping out of planes was safer than getting out of bed?” according to a CTV News report.
He thanked everyone for their get-well messages.
Bush, who is the 41st president, is no stranger to sky-diving despite the quip: he bailed out of a torpedo bomber after being shot down in World War II, and he has skydived since then in more recreational circumstances. He even skydived just a year ago, on his 90th birthday.
His fall happened July 15 in the Maine town of Kennebukport, where he lives. Doctors have decided to let his vertebra heal on its own after the fracture.
Bush lives in Houston during the winter. The Bush family hails from Texas. His son George W. Bush, before he was president, was governor of the state, and used to be an executive with the baseball team the Texas Rangers.
