Authorities scramble after fires in two planes at Dallas airport

Authorities are investigating the bizarre coincidence of two different aircraft catching fire at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Two separate planes in Dallas had to evacuate their passengers after smoke was reported in the cabin of one plane, and a fire was found in the landing gear tires of another.

The smoke was found in the cabin of an American Airlines flight and, in a strange coincidence, fire was found in the landing gear tires of a Spirit Airlines flight. The AA flight was bound for Chicago and was ready for takeoff before the incident was reported, while the Spirit Airlines flight had just touched down after flying in from Orlando with one of the tires on the landing gear flaming, according to a wire report.

American Airlines Flight 1658 was flying out of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to O’Hare International Airport in Chicago when all passengers were forced to deplane with emergency experts due to smoke being reported in the cabin, AA said in a statement. The plane was evacuated successfully. A total of 141 passengers and five crew members were on board at the time, with three people having minor injuries.

Meanwhile, a Spirit Airlines jet that had arrived had to have flames extinguished on a landing gear tire. The fire was described as small and was quickly put out by firefighters. All passengers got off safely without injuries.

Authorities are investigating both incidents, according to the report.
