Satanic monument removed after protesting in Detroit

The Satanic Temple, a fringe religious organization, was forced to remove its unveiling of a goat-headed bronze monument in Detroit on Saturday according to a Daily Mail report.  The Baphomet statue measured 8 1/2 feet tall showing Satan with horns, wings, and a beard, supported by an inverted pentagram with children gazing up at the representation.

The organization originally proposed for the separation of church and state, was going to host the statue at popular restaurant until the owner changed his mind after receiving threats.

Alternatively, the group revealed it at ticketed event at a secret location in the city. The organization’s co-founder Lucien Greaves made a statement to the Associated Press that protesters had threatened to emblaze the venue prior to exposing it. Hundreds of people attended the event, including assailants who voice strong opposition to the group.

The monument was scheduled to be unveiled on July 25 at Bert’s Market Place in Detroit’s Eastern Market district, but management had returned the rental fee once they learned who made the reservation.

The Temple’s chapter founder Jex Blackmore has corrected misunderstandings about the organization claiming that it doesn’t worship Satan, but instead promotes individuality, compassion, and alternative views that don’t align with Christian sects.

The bronze behemoth was designed at a cost of $100,000 initially conceived for the state capitol in Oklahoma City until their Supreme Court banned all religious displays including The Ten Commandments on Capitol property.

The statue will not stay in Detroit with the intention to house it outside Arkansas’ Statehouse in Little Rock next to a Ten Commandments erection.

Detroit was selected because of a strong congregation in the area the founder said.
