The world's oldest Koran discovered in a University library.
According to a radiocarbon analysis conducted at the University of Oxford, the University of Birmingham’s library withholds the world’s oldest and most sacred Islamic text, according to an Irish Independent report.
The parchment was dated between AD 568 and 645 with a 95.4pc accuracy. The results conclude that the manuscript was drafted less than 20 years after the Prophet Mohammed’s death.
David Thomas, professor of Christianity and Islam at the University of Birmingham said that the surprising revelation could detail an unknown history within a few years of Islam’s birth.
He also added, “This means that the parts of the Koran that are written on this parchment can, with a degree of confidence, be dated to less than two decades after Mohammed’s death.
The portions suggest that the structure is very relatable to the form of the Koran read today.
