Google Drive now plugin for Microsoft Office

Google Drive plugin is available exclusively with Microsoft Office.

Google unveiled a new plugin for Microsoft Office that gives users the control to access and edit their Microsoft documents, spreadsheets, or slides within Drive and to download Drive documents into such Microsoft Office applications reported TechCrunch.

A spokesperson for Google said the intention was for users to utilize Google Drive’s storage capabilities with more versatility. Google already allows the option to sync files via a desktop application, but this new integration gives consumers even more cross-over capabilities. Once installed, you can access the folder as any other in Word or on your computer.

Such an advancement connecting the web to a desktop application is a natural segue after last year when they launched the ability to use apps from a browser.

This exclusive installment for Microsoft Office proves that the software is still the premiere suite of desktop tools. One drawback, however, is that once files are integrated into Drive’s Docs, Sheets, and Slides, these applications become the default destination if you decide to make edits, opposed to Microsoft Office’s online platform.

Simultaneously, Microsoft is executing a marketing strategy to urge buyers to subscribe to Office 365 with web apps and storage part of the package, which is making some headway in the market.
