Starbucks is coming to South Africa

The coffee company will be opening the first sub-Saharan outlets next year.

Another country is going green and white. Starbucks has announced its stores are coming to South Africa.

Reuters Africa reports that the coffee giant has struck a deal with the company Taste Holdings to give them the rights to open and operate Starbucks stores for the next 25 years. The stores will be the first in sub-saharan Africa, and Taste has the rights to expand other countries nearby.

Taste struck a similar deal with Domino’s Pizza last year. The company’s holdings jumped 20 percent in response to the latest acquisition.

As Lid Time News reports, Starbucks is already in 66 countries running over 22,000 retail stores. Starbucks president for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, Kris Engskov said in a statement, “We are proud to be bringing Starbucks to South Africa next year. The coffee market here is vibrant and growing fast—we want to be part of that growth, bringing the passion and energy of this remarkable country into our first store.”

The first stores are planned for the capital city of Johannesburg and will focus on hiring local baristas.
