The cult-like Western following of a Japanese game leaps into home game consoles later this month.
What sounds like a “NewsFrom the Weird” article is actually a very hot new video game about– pigeon dating.
It gives the player the opportunity to recreate that special high school dating atmosphere with pigeons. And yes it is popular.
Clapway reports “Hatoful Boyfriend” has the world clamoring for the anticipated release on Playstation 4 and Vita later this month.
The pigeon sim concept originated in Japan a few years back with a visual novel by Hato Moa. The franchise includes further visual novels, CDs, fan guides and comic books. What began as popular in the Japanese culture is now a virtual cult in the West.
For those who play dating games, the play is not unlike other ones where the main character searches for love from a series of exchanges with other culminating in “the one.” The twist is that this time the love searchers are pigeons.
Gamers will be able to populate an entire high school– teachers, coaches, principals, cheerleaders, marching bands, glee club– with pigeons looking for that all elusive special pigeon. Later editions will offer enhancements.
For those caught up in the aviary frenzy, July 21st will bring this new addition to the lineup of pigeon infatuation. Can PigeonCon-2016 be too much of a dream?
Based on the profitability of this franchise, look for equally novel twists on existing game scenarios to be introduced in the coming months and years.
