Wisconsin man allegedly threatens to kill President Obama

A criminal complaint and arrest warrant were issued Thursday against a Wisconsin man for allegedly threatening to kill President Barack Obama. He is being detained in a mental health facility, according to AP.

The 55-year-old man, Brian Dutcher, told a security guard during Obama’s visit to Wisconsin to promote his proposal for overtime pay reform Wednesday that he was planning to kill the president. He told the La Crosse library security guard that “the usurper is here and if I get a chance I’ll take him out and I’ll take the shot,” CNN reports.

According to the warrant, Dutcher confirmed his threat in an interview with the Secret Service. The warrant also says that Dutcher made a remark on Facebook on June 30 regarding his plans. He said that he would be in  La Crosse Thursday and that killing the president is “our CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY.”

According to the affidavit, Dutcher informed a La Crosse police detective that his threat was a serious one and that he would not have made such statements and plans if he had not intended on going through with them.

U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil said that Dutcher was being held in a mental facility after Wisconsin authorities received a civil commitment order. Court records do not show that Dutcher has an attorney.

Threats against Obama and the White House are relatively common. However, Thursday threat came in a time of increased security measures due to concerns of a terrorist threat moving into the weekend of July 4.
