NBC cuts all television ties with Donald Trump

The moves follows Trump's controversial remarks about Mexican immigrants.

It was likely an easy decision—he’s fired.

NBC has cut all broadcast ties with Donald Trump following outcries over controversial remarks he made at his presidential campaign’s kickoff event. As US Magazine reports, Trump, 69, made derogatory comments about immigrants in one of his speeches.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending they’re best,” the 2016 presidential hopeful said. “They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

On Monday the 29th, NBCUniversal, which airs several shows starring and/or produced by Trump, released their own statement. “At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,” they said. “Due to recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.”

The statement clarified that Celebrity Apprentice, which has always starred Trump, will still be part of a lineup with a different host in place. NBC will not, however, air the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. US Magazine reports the 2015 Miss USA pageant will still happen in July and will attempt to find another broadcasting statement.

In an interview with US Weekly, Trump revealed he did not regret his original words. “There is nothing to apologize for,” he said. “Everything that I said was correct.”
