Two kids have died in Detroit after being struck by a man in a vehicle fleeing police who reached 70 miles per hour on a residential street.

Three more children are in critical condition after the chase ended in a wreck, which began when police spotted a red Chevrolet Camaro with two men, and noted that one had a handgun, according to a CBS Detroit report.

Officers turned on the siren and tried to get the vehicle to pull over, but instead the suspects sped off and got up to speed of 70 miles per hour on residential street, and it even lost the cop car at one point, prompting the officers to call of the chase when they saw smoke ahead.

They found that the fleeing car had crashed into a home where kids had been playing outside. Two children were found laying in the roadway as cops approached, and the officers tried to revive the children. They were then sent to the hospital. More officers arrived and saw other kids that had been hit, and they were also transported.

A 6-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl were declared dead. Three more children ages 3, 5, and 7 are in critical condition.

A 23-year-old woman was also struck by the car, and she was in serious condition.

The suspects were taken into custody with non-life-threatening injuries.
