Guards shot down an armed man after crashing his SUV while trying to break into an Arkansas military base has died, the FBI said Wednesday.

According to the Washingtonpost, Larry D. McElroy, 43 died on Tuesday night at a Little Rock hospital, FBI spokesman Deb Green said. McElroy had been admitted to the hospital in a critical condition since Monday, when he had been shot by guards after his SUV crashed outside of the Little Rock Air Force Base and emerged from the vehicle wielding a rifle, authorities reported.

Misty Chambers, a woman who answered a number listed for McElroy’s wife hung up when she was called Wednesday and did not immediately respond to a message that was left seeking a comment. Another message to a number that was listed for McElroy was not immediately returned.

The FBI stated that McElroy did not have any terrorist links and had never been charged. The agency, however, said that they did not know of an apparent motive though McElroy was discovered to have a history of paranoia about the base and had experienced drug-induced hallucinations.

Authorities added that they did not find any explosives at his home in Jacksonville or any explosives in his car. Green further stated that the FBI did not have further details about the investigation.

Earlier in January, it is reported that McElroy had told a deputy that he had found three spy devices on his home electronic appliances and chandelier that were believed to have been placed by N.B “General Forrest and Colonel Sanders.”

Last year a deputy had gone to McElroy’s Home after his father had reported that McElroy had claimed to have been held captive by 25 people. According to the sheriff’s report, McElroy was “hallucinating” since he had been pointing out individuals who were not present.

McElroy had also filed for bankruptcy in 2010, reporting $112,000 in assets and more than $230,000 in liabilities. According to the Federal court documents McElroy at the time said he was unemployed.
