Wife of biker in this week’s shoot out says some arrested are innocent

Twin Peaks, a restaurant in Waco, Texas played host to a deadly biker gang shoot out this week that left nine dead. Minutes before the violence broke out, Theron Rhoten pulled in on his vintage Harley. According to Rhoten’s wife, he had nothing to do with the violence and did nothing but duck and run for cover when the shots rang out. Despite these facts, Rhoten was arrested with the lot of 170 bikers swept up by police after the incident.

Katie Rhoten, Theron’s wife, says that her husband and other “nonviolent, noncriminal people” were wrongly arrested in the mayhem. According to News OK, Katie says of her husband, “He’s good to his family…He doesn’t drink; He doesn’t do drugs; he doesn’t party. He’s just got a passion for motorcycles.” McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara and Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton declined to comment Tuesday on allegations that innocent bikers were arrested. Police have said the gathering of five biker groups was to resolve a dispute over turf.

Katie Rhoten says that her husband called her from jail and explained to her that he and two other members of his Vise Grip Club run and ducked for cover and did not participate in the violence at all. Police say the violence was spurred by a parking dispute along with someone running over a gang member’s foot.

Because of the sheer volume of how many bikers were arrested, it could be weeks or even months before bail-reduction hearings can be had.
