First-ever HIV home testing kit hits shelves in United Kingdom

BioSure assures its users that test results are 99.7 accurate.

The new era of the safe sex practices have begun in United Kingdom.
The first home testing kit for HIV has gone on sale in the UK and will allow the buyers to find out if they are positive within 15 minutes, the Tech Times have reported.
Now one question remains for the new BioSure HIV Self Test user: is it accurate?
“BioSure HIV Self Test is over 99.7 percent accurate and allows your HIV status at a time and a place that is convenient for you,” the BioSure site states on its product website. “The test is extremely easy to perfect, requires only a tiny drop of blood, and gives a clear and simple to read result in just 15 minutes.”
Of course, if the test is positive, then you will still have to consult with a health professional to confirm the result.
The goal, the Tech Times said, was to arm citizens with instant knowledge — the early the treatment, the improved medical results. Currently, they are 26,000 people in England, Scotland and Wales that are infected with HIV.
The product is currently sold for $45 per test, Tech Times said, and BioSure also offers a subscription service, delivering one test every three months. The test is effective for subjects exposed to HIV within three months.
Home testing was legalized in United Kingdom last April, and BioSure is first official professional DIY test on the market.
“We campaigned for a long time to secure the legalization of HIV self-test kits which happened in April 2014,” Rosemary Gillespie, a chief executive with Terrence Higgins Trust told the Tech Times, “so it is great to see the first self-test kits being approved.”
Terrence Higgins Trust is a charity firm that has long advocated HIV awareness.
“It is important to make sure people can get quick access to support when they get their result,” Gillespie told Tech Times.
