Mariah Carey brings us blast from the past with ‘Infinity’

What Entertainment Weekly is hailing “the 90s throwback we’ve been waiting for,” ‘Infinity’ seems to be the hot single coming off Mariah Carey’s yet-to-be-released greatest hits compilation. Mariah Carey #1 To Infinity is a compilation of all the singer’s greatest hits on one album.

After her recent breakup from husband Nick Cannon, Mariah is ready to hit the ground running with a reminder of what fans love most. Some of the lyrics reflecting her recent breakup with Cannon are: “Close the door, lose the key, leave my heart on the mat for me.” The single is currently available on iTunes and Spotify. She goes on in her song to say: “I was yours eternally. There’s an end to infinity.”

Not so with the singers’ hits. It seems that her songs have lasting power and great potential for a successful album release, especially for all those 90s fans.

The album is set to release on May 18 through Epic Records and Columbia Records/Sony Legacy. The album brings Carey back with her former collaborator Antonio “L.A.” Reid, who helped upstart her career in 2005 with The Emancipation of Mimi. This record is set to be the 18th in Mariah’s longstanding career in the music industry.

While record sales have hit major troubles in recent years, Carey’s staying power will be put to the test with this album release. Her fans have proven to be incredibly loyal and her compilation album is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Such all-time favorites on the album will be “Always Be My Baby” and “Heartbreaker.”

The video for “Infinity” shot by director Brett Ratner will be released in coming weeks. The lyric video, which Entertainment Weekly says looks “like something off a Disney DVD” will have to be enough for now.

#1 to Infinity may carry Mariah from the past to the present and beyond.
