Tom Cruise admits airplane stunt in new ‘Mission Impossible’ was terrifying

Tom Cruise hangs out of an airplane in the latest "Mission Impossible" movie.

Tom Cruise revealed to CinemaCon goers that his stunt in Mission Impossible- Rogue Nation was not product a CGI, but that Cruise actually clung to the side of a moving airplane for eight takes.

Cruise, joined by his cast mates Rebecca Ferguson and Simon Pegg, presented behind the scenes footage of the scene which involved Cruise harnessed but hanging on to the side of an Airbus A400M while over 5,000 feet in the air. Cruise had no protective gear except lenses to protect his eyes from debris  and high winds. While Cruise laughed off the danger the scene presented, he did admit that the unpredictable circumstances of the getting the shot made him nervous.

“I was actually scared sh*tless,” Cruise told the audience while airing the preview. “I was in a harness, on my side, that was kind of loose so you can see the vibration of my body against the plane.”

Cruise is known for doing his own– often crazy or risky– stunts and in Mission Impossible- Ghost Protocol he participated in stunts such as taking a harnessed leap off the world’s tallest building.

“I’ve always wanted to do that,” admitted Cruise. “I want to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.”

Crazy stunts aside, the cast and crew are very excited to share the latest installment of the franchise with fans.

“Here we are at number five almost 20 years later, it’s really a dream come true,” said Cruise said to the crowd. “This movie has a tremendous amount of action of course, but also intrigue and mission twists.”
