Scott Walker goes further right and gets support of billionaire Koch

On the same day that Walker speaks of limiting all forms of immigration, he gains the support of the GOPs most coveted donors.

Presidential hopeful Scott Walker has veered further right than other candidates have dared to go. As a result, he has gained the verbal, if not financial, support of the heavily courted Koch brothers.

In an interview with Glen Beck on Monday, Walker spoke openly about the negative effects of legal immigration on American employment.

“In terms of legal immigration, how we need to approach that going forward is saying — the next president and the next Congress need to make decisions about a legal immigration system that’s based on, first and foremost, on protecting American workers and American wages. Because the more I’ve talked to folks, I’ve talked to [Alabama Sen. Jeff] Sessions and others out there — but it is a fundamentally lost issue by many in elected positions today — is what is this doing for American workers looking for jobs, what is this doing to wages. And we need to have that be at the forefront of our discussion going forward,”

While most candidates are critical of undocumented immigrants, none have gone so far as to criticize people who enter the country through the formal immigration process. Walker’s comments mark a drastic change from his previous support of a pathway to citizenship for illegals.

Despite grumbling among some of his supporters, Walker’s Mitt Romney style flip-flop has helped him to gain the support of the cherished Koch brothers.

On that same Monday, later in the evening, David Koch made comments in favor of Walker at private gathering of New York Republicans at the Union League Club. He said the Wisconsin Governor was ‘terrific’ and would surely get the Republican nomination.

David and his brother Charles Koch are perhaps the two most influential Republican donors. These billionaire brothers oversee one of the biggest and wealthiest political organizations in the country. Reports indicate that they will raise $900 million for whichever candidate they choose to support.

“While I think Gov. Walker is terrific, let me be clear, I am not endorsing or supporting any candidate for president at this point in time,” said David Koch.

The Kochs have repeatedly stated that they would not put their vast political donor network to use during the primary season. Rather they would wait and support the candidate who won the Republican nomination.

Yet, attendees of the meeting who only spoke on the condition of anonymity said that Mr. Koch indicated that the Koch family would personally support Walker during the primary season.
