Sara Gilbert cheers on TV mom Roseanne Barr in fight to save her eyes

Sara Gilbert has no doubts that her tough-as-nails former costar Roseanne Barr is up to the challenge of saving her eyesight.

On her TV program “The Talk” on Tuesday, Gilbert spoke out passionately about the news that her famous sitcom mom, Roseanne Barr, is going blind as a result of macular degeneration and glaucoma, People reports.

“I love Roseanne so much, and she’s such a strong person and such an important person in my life,” Gilbert said during one of the show’s segments. “I know she’s a fighter and I know she’s strong. I truly believe that if anyone can do it, she’ll have her sight as long as possible.”

Gilbert, 40, played Barr’s headstrong daughter Darlene for nine seasons of the hit TV series “Roseanne.”

On Monday, Barr, 62, revealed in an interview with the Daily Beast that the unfortunate prognosis was that she would eventually lose her eyesight due to the aggressive dual eye diseases.

“We all hate to think of anyone we love dealing with something like this,” Gilbert said. “Eyesight is such a big thing and such a big thing to lose.”

Barr remains stoic in the face of this new challenge. In her interview, she mused, “It’s something weird. But there are other weird things. That one’s harsh, ’cause I read a lot, and then I thought, ‘Well, I guess I could hire somebody to read for me and read to me.’ But I like words and I like looking. You do what you have to do. I just try and enjoy vision as much as possible — y’know, living it up. My dad had it, too.”

Barr also defended her use of pot, saying, “It’s expansive. It opens your mind,” and “It makes you wonder. It doesn’t close that down.”
