Police say the man jumped out of a van and took off running, confront police with a gun and refusing to drop it.
A Chicago police officer has shot and killed a man in the South Shore neighborhood after he allegedly pointed a gun at them.
The officers heard gunfire shortly after 10 p.m. on Friday night in the area, and witnessed a van fleeing the scene, according to an Associated Press report.
A male passenger eventually jumped out of the vehicle and took off running. The man, who was not identified, then allegedly pointed a gun at the officers and ignored commands to drop the weapon, resulting in an officer firing two shots, according to Deputy Chief Dana Alexander as reported by the AP.
A gun was recovered at the scene. No officers were injured in the shooting, which police are still investigating. The Independent Police Review Authority is in charge of the investigation.
